Yikes! Ace of Spades HQ has the latest style in prom dresses here. You'll have to click on over to see the picture. Immodesty in dress, especially for young girls, is something I have a big problem with, and I've blogged about it here before. I have a 10-year-old daughter, and it is extremely difficult to find clothes for her that aren't revealing, sexy, slinky, etc. In fact, I'm pulling out my sewing machine tonight in an attempt to make her some stylish, yet modest, crop pants, skirts, and sundresses. The PalmPilot and I have discussed this subject often lately (especially living in Hawaii, we see all kinds of immodesty), and we've come to the conclusion that the dads are MIA. He's jokingly said he wanted to ask some of these scantily-clad young women, "Who's your daddy?", but I've encouraged him to refrain, for obvious reasons. ;-) He makes a good point, though. Who are the daddies, and where are they? They certainly don't appear to be protecting their daughters, which is a large part of the daddy job description, in my view.
Girls who will wear prom dresses like the one in the link above are in for a world of heartache, I'm afraid. Their hearts, as well as their bodies, are in danger. Dads, please, please, don't let your daughters dress like hookers. Treat your daughters as the priceless treasures that they are. And moms, have a backbone and just say NO to these immodest styles that are so popular. Many parents let that slide and say that you just have to pick your battles. Well, it's one that I am picking. To my way of thinking, if my daughter starts dressing like a sexpot, she will eventually start thinking that she is one, and she'll behave accordingly.
I've mentioned Dory's post on Feminine Modesty today already, but it bears repeating. Having at one time (long ago) been a young girl, I can certainly understand a girl's desire to look stylish and fit in. But lines must be drawn to protect our children. It's their hearts that we're after. And I'm preaching this sermon to myself, by the way.
