Helpful Art Resource

Years ago when I first started homeschooling the PalmKids, I used free art resources from the National Gallery of Art. Somewhere along the way, though, I forgot about their program. Recently I remembered, and I sent off for a couple of their DVDs. They're free except for the postage to send them back, and you can keep them for a long time -- some of them for the entire school year.

We've been watching Making Art, and I'm having the PalmKids take notes as they watch because I realized that they need more practice in note-taking. So far we've learned about color, illusion, and art conservation and preservation. All three of us have enjoyed this DVD and are learning new things. The Masters of Illusion segment was particularly fascinating.

To see what the NGA offers, click here. Read descriptions carefully, though, because they offer slides, DVDs, CD-ROMs, and audiocassettes. You can request a catalog, and they send it to you quickly. The NGA also offers a website for kids here and a "classroom" for students and teachers here.
