Last month
Craig at Second Drafts got me thinking about learning and reading in heaven. Here's a peek:
Which brings me back to my original thought: the more I learn, the more I want to learn, and the more frustrating I become that I can’t learn it all, even in a hundred lifetimes. My hope for Heaven is that we don’t get to just download everything we don’t know in one fell swoop; I’d rather have to learn it, as at least then I’ll have plenty of time to do so.
I feel his frustration with not having enough time to read everything he wants to read, and the idea of having an eternity to read and learn intrigues me. I'd never thought of that before! Well, whaddya know, I came across that idea last night in
Habits of the Mind as James Sire shares his "mild form of despair" at not having enough time to read all he wants to read: (italics in original)
Then I perk up. Ah! but there's heaven! Heaven will be a place that fulfills my longest longings. Either I will have time to read all the books that I have not read before or I will receive something even better.
Yes! Just another reason to long for heaven and to reaffirm that this world of so many books and so little time is not my home.
